SIIM U - Section 10: Breast Imaging: Modalities, Procedures, Workflow and Informatics
Issues
Saturday, May 17, 2008
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Ballroom 6B
Section Head: J. Anthony
Seibert, PhD
University of
California, Davis
Section Description:
This session describes details on the implementation, configuration, and impact
of digital mammography and other breast imaging modalities in an electronic
imaging environment with a focus on the informatics considerations, Integrating
the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) pertinent integration profiles, and suggestions
for improving workflow and efficiency.
110: Breast Imaging: More than Mammography
J. Anthony Seibert, PhD
University of California, Davis
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe various methods and modalities for imaging the breast,
including digital mammography, ultrasound, and MRI.
2. Understand the types of acquisition, display, and storage requirements for
breast imaging procedures, and PACS administrator oversight considerations.
3. Describe what's in store for the future: digital tomosynthesis and
dedicated breast CT and to discuss the potential impact on implementation and
workflow.
210: Electronic Breast Imaging: The Impact on PACS, Technologist/Radiologist
Workflow, and Equipment Purchase Considerations
William R. Geiser, MS
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the impact of the mammography quality standards act (MQSA) on
deployment of digital imaging in mammography from the PACS perspective.
2. Communicate information regarding needs for workstation configuration,
image and data flow, computer aided detection (CAD) server, and CD burner
deployment issues.
3. Describe considerations for the implementation of digital mammography and
breast imaging for image display, storage & interfaces, and potential pitfalls.
310: Digital Breast Imaging Informatics Considerations for PACS
Administrators (and Pertinent IHE Profiles)
David A. Clunie, MBBS
RadPharm
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the general issues confronting the implementation of digital
mammography and other breast imaging modalities for the PACS administrator.
2. Describe the subset of solutions addressed by the Integrating the Healthcare
Enterprise (IHE) mammography profile (and others....).
3. Summarize works in progress for new IHE profile extensions applicable to
breast imaging that address current and future imaging possibilities.
