SIIM U - Section 8: Digital Radiography
Saturday, May 17, 2008
10:15 am - 11:45 am
Ballroom 6C
Section Head:  Charles E. Willis, PhD
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Section Description:
Image management systems depend on digital radiography (DR) to acquire much of their workload. Chuck Willis will introduce the fundamentals of DR systems. Tony Seibert will describe a new view of DR systems according to their underlying technology. Ellen Charkot will explain how the transition to DR affects the x-ray technologist.

  108: Fundamentals of Digital Radiography
Charles E. Willis, PhD

University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Learning Objectives:
1. Explain how ordinary radiographic images can be captured in digital form.
2. Recognize the advantages of digital images over film-based images.
3. Describe some limitations of digital images.

208: Digital Radiography: Are CR versus DR Comparisons Valid?
J. Anthony Seibert, PhD

University of California, Davis

Learning Objectives:
1. Differentiate between CR and DR nomenclature since it can be confusing and misleading.
2. Understand the current status of digital radiography devices in terms of acquisition strategies, image characteristics, and implementation.
3. Discuss and describe alternate viewpoints on digital radiographs.
4. Determine and select optimal technology for intended clinical purposes.

308: Impact of Digital Radiography on the Radiographer                                      Ellen Charkot, MRT
The Hospital for Sick Children

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe changes in practice, workload, and workflow due to digital radiography.
2. Identify the training requirements for digital radiography.
