"Imaging Insight at UVA: A Patient Perspective"
The University of Virginia, Department of Radiology has introduced many
exciting IT innovations recently to streamline workflow and enhance PACS
integration. All of these changes have been made to improve patient care
and facilitate physician
workflow. The UVA virtual tour will highlight the behind the scenes
novel solutions we have developed and implemented to meet one of our key
clinical missions: Be recognized as offering the highest quality and
best value in medical imaging in our region and comparable to any
medical imaging service nationally. Starting at reception, where the
patient is greeted and registered, they are given a pager, allowing
patients and family members to leave the reception area while waiting
for their exam; continuing with online protocoling of patient exams in
PACS which decreases interruptions in the read areas. Ending with
universal clinician access to the patient medical record through our
novel referring physician online interface which gives non-UVA
physicians access to their (and only their) patient’s labs, radiology
reports and images on UVA PACS. The University of Virginia, Department
of Radiology is on the leading edge of integrating patient care with
imaging information systems. With a dedicated QA team and robust
business continuance that has been real world proven and successful, our
department of caring and resourceful health care professionals focus is
improving patient care through the application of novel but practical
information system innovations.
